Heatless Waves // Bendy Hair Rollers

IMG_9819 (2)I don’t normally do hair tutorials but lately I have renewed my love for bendy hair rollers (I have no idea what they’re actually called so this is what I’m going for)

I found these lurking in the back of my cupboard and had completely forgotten about buying them a couple of years ago. I decided to give them a whirl for old times sake as I used to love wearing my hair wavy by experimenting with a variety of methods over night, and the results turned out surprisingly well!

I decided to repeat the process but this time blog it for anyone who may be interested and wants to achieve heatless ‘beachy’ waves with very little effort.

1. The first stage is to wash your hair as you still want your hair to be slightly damp when you roll it. Obviously if you don’t have time to wash your hair you could just spritz some water on it and it will have pretty much the same effect.

2. Next you want to brush through your hair and an optional step which I like to do is add some kind of volumising product. This one from V05 also acts as a heat protectant so I use it whenever I blowdry my hair and can always see a difference, especially in the thickness of my hair.

3. You can either leave you hair to dry naturally or blowdry it at this point. The only thing you need to make sure of is that your hair is mostly dry (about 10% damp to 90% dry). You might think this will make it less effective but trust me, unrolling the hair the next morning only to find soggy hair is not cute.

IMG_9767 (2)

4. Now for the trickiest part – the rolling! This does take a bit of getting used to and I often find myself needing a few attempts at a roll before it stays in place but once you figure out a technique it shouldn’t take too long.

I basically section my hair into seven parts (as I have 7 rollers) and place the roller underneath each section near to the head. I then wrap the hair around all the way to the end before tightly bending in each end of the roller.

I think this will be much easier if you have shorter hair because mine does take a lot of rolling and I do get the odd bit that sticks out, this is easily solvable with a hair grip though.

5. A quick spray of hairspray will come in handy here.

6. Now you get to go and sleep with your snazzy new alien hair! Warning: this isn’t going to be the comfiest way to sleep but it will hopefully be worth it.

IMG_97817. The last step is to unravel the curls the next morning and see how your hair turned out. This is always a bit of a make or break moment, but even if the waves are quite messy you can still make it work – that is the beauty of the beachy wave!

8. Don’t forget to add some hairspray and then style however you like. This time I just wore it down as I liked how the curls looked, but I think this style looks so nice in a half up – half down – do (which I desperately need to improve)

It’s also worth noting that my hair is naturally very straight so this is such an easy way to add texture aswell as save time in the morning!

I’m pretty sure I bought my rollers from Amazon, but as it was a while ago I can’t find an exact link. I have seen some very similar ones on both Amazon and Ebay though, aswell as stores like Boots and Superdrug. Just google ‘bendy hair rollers’ and I’m sure something will come up!

Let me know what you think of this style and if you would try it!

Lush Haul // #3

So I went into Lush again…

But I have a good excuse this time!

I needed to buy some presents for two of my friends so the majority of the stuff in this haul will be given away (*cry*) but I couldn’t resist also picking up a couple of things for myself after my Christmas supply mysteriously diminished (much too quickly for my liking)

I’ll start with the one I am most excited about and that is DRAGON’S EGG bath bomb!

IMG_9700Although this doesn’t look especially spectacular from the outside, I can tell it will be a corker when I put it in my bath! I was persuaded by my friend Frankie to buy this one (I did drag her around Lush for about an hour) and I am so glad I did because it smells amazing! It has a citrus scent, which just screams lemon sherbet and makes me want to shove it in my gob (wouldn’t advise) also it’s one of the bigger bath bombs so I can’t wait to see how this reacts with water!

What Lush say:

Dragon’s Egg makes bathtime exciting as it fizzes and crackles and changes the colour of your water to a gorgeous citrusy gold. Its scent is reminiscent of lemon sherbet, with a hint of jasmine, leaving you feeling great and ready for a good day. Its citrus scents leave you feeling transformed and invigorated.

Dragon’s Egg ~ £3.35

Another bath bomb that caught my eye was TWILIGHT

Not only do I love the design of this bath bomb but it also smells incredible. It really reminds me of ‘Northern Lights’ which I featured in my Christmas Lush Haul, and I am so happy I found the scent in a non-limited-edition product! It’s quite an unusual smell which I can’t pinpoint but it’s definitely a relaxing, calming concoction which is clear from the description below. Again this is one of the bigger bath bombs so if you didn’t want to use it all in one go, I often break them in half (I did use a knife last time though and it didn’t really go to plan as it crumbled everywhere but, if you can, you do get more bang for your buck!)

What Lush say:

If sleep is evading you, this combination of essential oils will help get you ready for a good night’s rest. As Twilight dissolves, it turns from the colour of the setting sun and gets darker, turning your water a shimmering deep purple. The fragrance has been designed to help you sleep: lavender is a soothing, mind-clearing and calming fragrance, used in aromatherapy to treat insomnia and aid restful sleep, while benzoin and tonka call to mind a milky caramel malt drink.

Twilight ~ £3.35

Moving onto my friends gifts, I firstly bought them each a SPACE GIRL bath bomb.

I have never personally tried these but I think they look so cool especially with the glitter. They smell quite fruity and contain popping candy which always makes your bath more fun so I feel as though I need to go and treat myself to one of these once the others have been used up because I’m so intrigued! They are slightly smaller than the previous bath bombs but it does mean they are cheaper coming in at £2.35 each (making it much easier to justify!)

What Lush say:

A space-dust filled bath bomb with a sweet and fruity fragrance. Once you drop this into your bath, Space Girl crackles with space dust (popping candy) as it spins around your orbit, restoring your good cheer. Grapefruit oil is refreshing and uplifting for the mood, clarifying and toning the skin, while bergamot makes you feel relaxed and cheerful.

Space Girl ~ £2.35

I also got them each one of my all time favourites – the CREAMY CANDY bubble bar.

I have to say, this doesn’t make your bath go any crazy colour (just slightly pink) or create masses of bubbles (although quite a few, it is a bubble bar!) but the smell is literally divine. If you don’t like sweet scents that much then you’d probably find the marshmallow type aroma quite sickly, but I just can’t get enough of the stuff. I did buy myself one last week and only used half of it so I currently have 2.5 creamy candy bubble bars dotted around my bedroom and they smell so freaking good I love it.

(also I found a really cute fat round one this time so obviously I chose that one!)

What Lush say:

If you’d normally reach for a sweet treat to lift your mood, this bubble bar does just the job. Its sweet candy floss smell raises your energy levels and perks you up. It also offers extra moisturisation than the average bubble bar as it has a blend of almond and cocoa butter. Creamy Candy contains almond oil and butter chunks that melt onto the surface of the water, giving skin a velvety texture.

Creamy Candy ~ £2.75

Let me know your favourite lush product because I love going in to smell them all!

Buckley London // Jewellery Haul

Last weekend I was very lucky to receive a parcel from Buckley London – a costume & fashion jewellery company!

A bit of history…

Since it was set up in 1989, founder Adrian Buckley has had one aim – to design and manufacture the best quality jewellery at competitive prices. Adrian is also the designer behind the vintage inspired Attwood & Sawyer brand and the sterling silver Bouton range.

POPPY – £10

One of the things Buckley are most well known for are their unique jewelled poppies which have helped raise vital funds in aid of The Royal British Legion. The RBL is the UK’s leading charity that supports serving and ex-service personnel in the British Armed Forces, a very worthwhile cause.

These poppies have been worn by many celebrities including those on Strictly Come Dancing and The X Factor.

I think these are a great way of raising money whilst being a gorgeous adaptation to the usual poppy. I will definitely be wearing this when the time comes!

I also unwrapped some of their stunning ‘one carat’ earrings which I love! I feel like they’re so elegant and will definitely come in handy for special occasions. They were also presented in a cute little bag which makes them feel extra luxurious!

SET OF BRACELETS – £25 (individually £10 each)

Finally, I received this gorgeous set of mesh bracelets, each with a different jewelled bead. They come in shades of gold, black rhodium and my personal favourite rose gold. They also sell silver versions however you don’t get to chose which 3 you receive when you order a set so its a complete surprise!

I have been wearing my rose gold bracelet almost everyday since I got it and I adore it. I also really like how comfy they are because I often find bracelets can dig into my skin or get in the way but this one definitely doesn’t.

Thankyou so much to Buckley London for sending me these generous gifts!

I would highly recommend checking out their range as I genuinely love so much of their jewellery. Whether you’re searching for a gift for someone else or just want to treat yourself I’m sure you’ll find something beautiful!

Clothing Haul // River Island, New Look, Office

As someone who is stupidly indecisive, I find myself continuously changing the style I wish to conform to. I’m not one to be constantly on trend when it comes to fashion, and usually end up buying the odd item here and there because it takes my fancy, or more commonly, because it’s within my budget and it’s the best I can do.

However, thanks to my lovely mother (plus the wonders of student discount) I finally have some new clothes in my life which makes me very happy! (saving money is so boring)

 IMG_9521 (3)

Crop top – £8.99

(lol at my pale legs)

The first thing that caught my eye was this long sleeved, ribbed, grey crop-top from New Look. I’ve never been one to show off my stomach but recently I’ve been loving crop tops because I think they look really nice with high waisted jeans and skirts. I also often wear them with my harem trousers for a super casual look which I love.

IMG_9535 (2)

Bodycon Dress – £9.99

(I can’t find this on the website but a similar one can be found here)

Also from New Look I picked up this black and white striped bodycon dress with short sleeves. I wasn’t sure about it at first because I’m not really a fan of tight fitting dresses but I do like this one and think it will work well both in winter, for layering, and in summer without tights – I mean for £10 can you really go wrong!?

Trousers – £35

I went into River Island and spotted these beige trousers which are completely different to anything I normally wear but I really like! They’re almost like horse riding trouser style and are quite stretchy so seem almost like thick leggings. They have cute little gold details aswell which add a pretty touch to the plain colour. I think these will look lovely paired with a white shirt for a smarter look or a dark, (maybe burgundy?) baggy jumper for a casual outfit.

(woah excuse the entire belly being out and weird standing position)

Jeans – £40

Also from River Island (they have so many nice things in at the moment!) I found these light wash ripped ‘Eva’ girlfriend jeans. I needed some new jeans but have been really bored of skinnies for a while now so wanted some more baggy kind of ones. I feel like the rip is in a bit of a strange place because there’s only one but it adds a little twist to them and makes them feel more slouchy and comfy. I also think these will look so good in the summer rolled up at the bottom. I’ve worn these pretty much everyday since I bought them and I honestly think River Island have renewed my faith in jeans!

IMG_9649 IMG_9648

Brogues – £40

Lastly, I saw these heeled brogues in Office and thought they looked super cute. They aren’t very high which means they’ll be really easy to wear but I feel like they look a bit more feminine than flat brogues. I’m not too sure how I’m going to wear these yet but I’ll probably pair them with skirts and tights for a girly outfit or my new jeans for a more relaxed laid back look.

I’m so happy with my new additions to my wardrobe as it was seriously lacking beforehand!

What have you been buying recently?

Beauty Haul // Drugstore

After resisting the urge to buy anything beauty related for quite a while, I decided to treat myself last week with a few bits and bobs from a variety of places.

I’ll start off with the things from Superdrug which I bought first of all…

Rimmel Wake Me Up Concealer (£5.49) – I picked this up as I know a lot of people love it and I really enjoyed the Wake Me Up Foundation which I used non-stop a couple of summers ago. I have been using it for about a week and it’s been okay however I do find myself mixing it with other concealers as it doesn’t have quite enough coverage as I would like (those pesky dark circles need a hell of a lot of coverage!)

MUA Eyeshadow in the shade ‘Chamoisee’ (£1) – Although I have no idea how to say this shade name, it is a beautiful shade! It’s very shimmery and find that as it’s quite creamy it works best when applied with your finger rather than a brush. I have only worn it a couple of times so don’t have much to add other than I think MUA eyeshadows are amazing value for money!

(excuse hideously chipped nail and appalling swatch)

MUA 3-in-1 Extreme Contour Liner Pen in Dark Brown (£1.50) – I initially picked this up to try as a brow product. After trying it once I discovered it was definitely too dark for my eyebrows (I think I used a bit too much), however since then I have loved using it for its proper purpose, as an eyeliner. I don’t quite understand how its 3 in 1 but for the price I think its a great find and definitely one to check out if you fancy a subtle liner.

In addition to the things I bought last week in store, I also made an order on the website as I’ve been desperate to get my hands on some things from Makeup Revolution as soon as I heard they were launching in Superdrug.

Makeup Revolution Flawless Palette (£8) – This palette arrived yesterday and since then I have not stopped staring at it’s beautiful rose gold packaging aswell as all the beautiful shades inside which are a mixture of mattes and shimmers. I plan on doing a review of this soon so I won’t go into depth but I did instagram a photo of it so if you want to head on over for a sneak peek you’re welcome to! (isobel_mcallister) ~ cheeky self promotion haha

Makeup Revolution Goddess of Love Highlighter (£4.99) – It’s free delivery for orders over £10 on the Superdrug website at the moment so I added this triple baked highlighter to my basket to bump up the price as I have been seeing photos of these cute heart shaped blushers all over twitter and couldn’t resist! I’d also been thinking about buying a new highlighter for a while as it’s something which is lacking in my collection and this one seems really nice so far.

Aswell as buying things from Superdrug, I popped into Wilkinsons and discovered their amazing makeup deals!

Lasting Perfection Concealer (shade 2) – As everything from Collection was under £4 I picked up yet another tube of my beloved for just £3.18. I believe this is the sixth tube of this concealer I’ve bought over the years but it just does the job well and doesn’t cost a bomb like some of its competitors!

Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation (103 True Ivory) (£4.98) – As I had run out of my L’Oreal True Match I was in need of a new foundation but didn’t want to spend a fortune on one. I spotted this on offer in Wilkinson’s and remembered that although I had previously bought the wrong shade (but still managed to use the whole bottle by mixing with other foundations!) I had loved the formula and finish of it, so this time I picked out a much lighter shade which actually suits my skin tone and am loving it again!

Batiste (Cherry) – I noticed that my favourite dry shampoo was on offer for just £2 so I picked up the Cherry version which I had never tried before. I think this may actually be my new favourite though as I love the smell!

Spotless Nose Pore Strips (£1) – I have always been intrigued by these de-clogging pore strips but was never going to spend ridiculous amounts of money on something which may not even work. However when I spotted these for just £1 I thought why the heck not and splashed the cash for the sake of experimentation. I have only used one so far and although I didn’t notice dramatic change, my nose did feel extremely clean and refreshed!

So that’s everything beauty related I’ve been buying lately – the spending ban shall resume again this week! (she says)

Bought anything nice lately?

Moooh!! Earrings // $15 for YOU to spend!

I was recently contacted by Italian fashion brand ‘Moooh!!’ who were kind enough to offer me the opportunity to spend up to $15 on their website. After sifting through numerous options I decided to go for these pretty little earrings…

‘Moooh!!’ sell themselves as a ‘social platform for discovering fashion and lifestyle products. Curated collections of vintage style, indie clothes for women and men. Boho clothing, cool dresses, cute shoes, cute decor. Free expedited worldwide shipping.’

These arrived much quicker than I would have thought, considering shipping is free and they came all the way from Hong Kong. They were also packaged really nicely in a cute pink box surrounded with bubble wrap for protection. I did notice that the parcel they arrived in had bracelet written on it rather than earrings which was a little confusing, but clearly a simple mistake.

I was very surprised to find that there were actually two pairs of earrings in the set as the photos on the website only showed the ‘Hamsa’ (Hand of Fatima) earrings which were priced at $10. This was a pleasant surprise but does make me question how accurate the website can be.

I think these are earrings are really pretty and interesting. I love the turquoise and blue detailing  and think they look more expensive than they actually were – the equivalent of £6.49

As expected for the price, they don’t feel like amazing quality. However, I’ve really enjoyed wearing them last night and today and will definitely be wearing with them a lot in the future!

As a little extra Moooh!! have given me the pleasure of giving you guys a $15 giftcard (about £10) to spend on anything from the website! All you have to do is sign up via THIS LINK and get spending!

If you’re interested in the exact earrings I ordered you can check them out HERE

Do let me know what you pick!

Valentines Day Makeup // Red Lip

Yet another year as a single pringle passes and I still find myself using Valentines Day as an excuse to buy myself cheap chocolate and wear red lipstick.

This year is no different so I thought I’d share one idea of how you could wear your makeup on V-day, whether you’re all loved up or planning on having fun with your friends – you can adapt it to suit your day of course!IMG_9307

bear in mind this looks a lot better in real life I am just terrible at modelling.IMG_9209 (2)

The Products I used:

Base – Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation (True Ivory), Benefit Erase Paste (light)

Cheeks – Sleek Contour Kit (light), MUA Blush (shade 2)

Eyes – Maybelline Colour Tattoo (‘Pink Gold’) over lid, Dainty Doll Eyeshadow in crease (‘Treat Her Like A Lady’), Collection Extreme Eyeliner, Go Big Manhattan Eyeshadow Pen (‘Pearl’) on lower lash line, Maybelline Falsies Mascara.

Lips – New Look Lip Liner, Rimmel Kate Moss Lipstick in 107 (looks much darker in real life!)IMG_9304

Let me know what you think of this look in the comments! I feel like the lipstick looks so much brighter in photos but I definitely think Valentines Day is a great time to brave the red lip if you don’t normally!

Anyone got any nice plans for tomorrow?
